Carl....great idea...so I thought I'd make a post for ya.
I'll start.
David Sylvian-Secrets of the Beehive
I've been a Sylvian fan since he was vocalist/guitarist in the the band JAPAN. I've loved Japan since their early Glam Rock late 70s era albums Adolescent Sex and Obscure Alternatives. In the early 80s, Japan trashed the glam style for the new romantic image and synthisized sound and put out the albums Quiet Life, Gentlemen Take Polaroids, and Tin Drum...not to mention other compilation releases and hits releases as well. When Japan started to fall apart, Sylvian left the band to achieve a solo career of amazing atmospheric albums that are musical poetry at it's finest. Sylvian is a master at writing well structured music instumentals, let alone layering his unique and not forgotten vocal croons.

Soul Survivors. Right now, their medley of Shake/Too Many Fish in the Sea is playing.
Japan...first two releases, great. Then, they started trying to cater to the NME and disowned those first two recordings.

The sound of my own voice cursing as itunes tells me its encountered an error (yet again). And yet another curse as I can't figure out why some of the tunes in me library aint in a folder in the itunes music folder (bleedin technology).
You'd have thought that I'd have more probs with it on me old machine. Also have a friggin Rugby game thats gonna have me swearing quite regualr.
As for music The Lovemaker tunes that I am now fnally getting rounf to listening too. (but only as long as Itunes stays open)

Genesis - Misc concerts and TV shows from the period of Foxtrot and Selling England By The Pound.
I've just been downloading all of these concerts. So I haven't really been listening to anything in particular, but just checking out all of these concerts. Seeing this band live, in it's prime, just proves why they were one of the greatest ever. Watching and seeing how they all played their parts is amazing, and Mike Rutherford in particular is just brilliant. But Steve Hackett, on guitar alone is also killer to watch.
But the real show, Gabriel, is easy to see how he gained the recognition he did. The man was otherworldly.
Brilliant band.

I still really love 'Tin Drum' - and when I first
heard about Sylvian (post-Japan) becoming quite
reclusive and recording alone, I thought that was
quite romantic, in a way. Sadly, I've found his
solo efforts self-indulgent, esoteric cobblers.
Great artwork, though.
D.
